FT225RD faults ============== NO RF OUTPUT : PA failures were fairly common on this unit at one time. FLUCTUATING OR LOW POWER OUTPUT : Check the small toroidal coil in the PA output circuitry. This sometimes burns out. If it needs replacing it MUST be replaced with the correct type or there will be difficulty tuning the PA correctly. LOW POWER OUTPUT : The exciter unit needs fairly careful alignment, and I have had to do this on several occasions - it may be that users adjust it, thinking it is the RF stage. FM POWER O/P SETTING : There is a large preset pot mounted on the main chassis down by the bottom of the audio board. This adjusts the maximum carrier level on FM, and is accessible from the top of the rig after removing the plastic cover over the audio board. I've never actually found this in the manual, but I expect it's there somewhere. NO AUDIO OUTPUT : Check the DIN plug is in the accesssory socket. The audio output transistors are prone to failure, but it should be noted that they can often destroy the audio driver and some of the associated resistors. The audio o/p transistors run quite hot in normal use. SSB CARRIER OSC ALIGNMENT : The instructions for aligning the SSB carrier osc appear to be incorrect in some of the manuals - the frequency given for USB should be used for LSB and vice versa. I don't know if all manuals are wrong. DISPLAY FLASHING : This happens when the PLL is out of lock. It will happen on some bands when repeater shift is selected if there is no shift xtal fitted on those bands. FREQ DISPLAY DOES NOT VARY : Check the clock oscillator xtal in the counter, also check Q05 (MSM5564), the clock osc IC. (Source unknown) (Downloaded from GB7SYP)
