Grid Locator Help

This program calculates bearing and distance values for the path between a base location and target location. It uses an ellipsoid model of the earth for maximum accuracy.

The locations can be entered manually, or by selecting MemoPad records with a special format.

 Entering Locations
The locations are entered and displayed on the bottom half of the main screen. Entries are in two columns with Base on the left and Target on the right. The entries show: (top to bottom) a name tag, the maidenhead grid, the latitude, and the longitude.

All of the location values except the name are contained in buttons.
To change a location using a maidenhead grid you can tap on the maidenhead value button.
To change a location using lat/long you can tap on either the lat or lon button.

When you tap on a location button a dialog will open that lets you change the name tag and the location.

 Locations from MemoPad
If there are properly formatted location tables saved as records in MemoPad, you can select locations.
Tap the header button for either Base Loc or Target Loc. A dialog will open with choices for loading or saving. If you select load from lists, tables will be displaid to select locations save in the MemoPad records.

 Bearing and Distance
The top half of the main screen shows the calculated results for the path.

Bearing:
Azimuth angle for path from Base to Target. 0=N, 180=S

Reverse Brg:
Azimuth angle for path from Target to Base.

Grd2Grd Dist:
The length of the path between the center of the Base MH grid to the center of the Target MH grid. This is shown in km.

Actual Distance:
The length of the path between the two latitude and longitude pairs. This is shown in both km and mi.

If either location was entered using lat/long the Grd2Grd and Actual distances may be different. If both locations were entered as grids, the lat/long values reflect the center of the grids and the Grd2Grd and Actual distances will be the same.
