G3VGR Field Day 2004

ARRL Field Day - June 2004

Unfortunately, I was unable to make Field Day this year due to having insufficient vacation days spare after taking a month's holiday in New Zealand & Australia earlier in the year.

Instead, I went hiking in the Montafon Valley, Austria and also attended the Friedrichshafen HamRadio Hamfest for the first time.

The W1SRG team consisted of Larry, AG1C, Doug, K1RDD and Willis, KB1JFG. The Field Day site was in the grounds of the Southborough Rod and Gun Club.  A total of 155 CW and 159 SSB QSOs were made.

Here are some photos of Hamradio 2004 at Friedrichshafen

The imposing entrance to the Friedrichshafen Messe, a modern exhibition centre

Friedrichshafen is famous as the city where the Zeppelin airships were invented and built.

One of the two halls staging the extensive fleamarket. Very spacious and easy to navigate

Some antique valve radios. I didn't ask the prices, but assume this sort of stuff isn't cheap

As well as tools, this guy was offering sufficient surgical products to supply a few hospital operating theatres

These owls were obviously doing a fine job as I never saw even a single sparrow all day

An impressive display of really nice wide spaced variable capacitors

Life's too short for QRP.
Excellent range of aussie made amplifiers, including one with 5Kw output from Emtron

Many national societies, DX, Contest and CW clubs were represented here

An interesting magnetic loop antenna for the HF bands

I came across this obvious contest site whilst hiking in the forests near Lindau

A fantastic mobile pub at the Bregenz Seefest. Nice beer too!
