Remove the bottom cover of the rig. Next to the battery there are six solder pads, numbered 1 to 6, pad 1 is already shorted (with a chip resistor) Simply short pads 2 and 3, also check that pad 6 has a chip resistor on it, if it has REMOVE it (if this is not removed the radio will not go out of band on HF and 6metres). Replace bottom cover, then hold FAST & LOCK buttons whilst turning the radio on, this resets the micro-processor, you WILL lose any already stored memories. The Rig will now operate out of band! TX coverage is 1.8Mhz to 76MHz NO GAPS ****(WARNING WARNING DO NOT TRANSMIT BETWEEN 31 TO 36MHz AS THIS COULD BLOW THE P.A. STAGE DUE TO LOW PASS FILTER CUT OFF ! ******) TX coverage continues on 137MHz to 174MHz and 410MHz to 470MHz One problem that happens after the mod is the AUTOMATIC REPEATER MODE no longer functions but repeater shift still works. What really appears to happen is the Auto repeater mode gets set to USA spec. To recap then here is the pad info Pad 1 is short Pad 2 is short Pad 3 is short Pad 4 is open Pad 5 is short Pad 6 is open I Hope this helps, Remember that transmitting out of band and on a frequency you are not licenced for is an offence! One other annoying problem is the fan that is running continously, This can be changed by connecting the fan to the PA fan, which, under rx mode has the fan running at a much slower and quieter speed, but at tx the fan runs as normal. So you are not actually stopping the rx fan, just slowing it down, which basically lowwers the air flow, but still circulates the air during rx. 73 for now....Mark G0NMY@GB7SAM.#28.GBR.EU
