MY RUSSIAN FRIENDS

   Tamara Sinchukova.

   Mother of Aleksei and Anton Sinchukov. She lives in Khimki nr Moscow. Tamara is a schoolteacher of English at a local school and has done a great job in bringing two boys up through university under difficult circumstances. She has never been to England but is a great Anglophile. I am pleased to be counted as one of her friends.

   Aleksei Sinchukov RK3DT

   Son of Tamara Sinchukova, lives at home with his mother in Khimki nr. Moscow (pronounced Heemky). A radio amateur with many English and European friends. Graduated at Moscow State University with a degree in electronics. Works for a communications firm in Moscow. He has been to England more than once and speaks excellent English.

   Vladimir Klyucherov. RA9JP

   Husband of Tatyana Klyucherova. They have one child Daniel born 1997.Vlad lives in Langepas a small but growing town in Siberia 100 kms. East of Surgut in the oil-bearing region of Russia. Vlad holds an executive position in a communications firm in Siberia. He is a radio amateur although all his operating is done from his club station RK9JWV that is situated on the third floor of his local school. A massive antenna array is constructed on the roof of the school. It was Vlad who first invited me to Russia in 1992. I was able to return the compliment the following year when he came to England and stayed with me.

   Tanya Klyucherova.

   Wife of Vlad Klyucherov, Langepas. Treated me very hospitably when I stayed there in 1996 She is a magnificent cook and I can honestly say I enjoyed the best food there than anywhere else in Russia. Had a baby in 1997 called Daniel.

   Boris Shabaev. UA9LAC

   Lives in Tyumen, an old and important city in Western Siberia. Had his own Fax business way back in 1992 but at present is unemployed. He has a wife and two grown-up children. Boris is very hospitable (as are most Siberians) and very kindly put me up in his flat for a few days both in 1992 and 1996 on my way to Langepas.

   Dima Lukachev. UA9LT

   Also lives in Tyumen and is a friend of Boris. Has a wife and two children of school age. Owns a dacha in the country with a large garden and greenhouse. He grows a magnificent display of vegetables and fruit. It’s hard to believe it’s been achieved in Siberia of all places.

   Igor Khrustalev.  UA3QJC

   A very interesting character. When I met him he had a very successful radio communications business in Voronezh; He is also a radio amateur, interested in art and more particularly in icon painting. In 1997 he moved to Hong Kong where he set up a similar sort of communications business which also seems to be doing quite well. Now he   lives on Lamma Island, which I think is a residential area in Hong Kong, He has invited me to visit him there.

   George Ivlev.  UA9JHR

   George lives at Surgut in West Siberia. He is chief of club station UZ9JWZ. In 1996 he made me very welcome when I visited Surgut on my way to Langepas.
