power one CQ-WW -- despite having to run on generator power (electricity was cut to Sarajevo during most of the siege) and being unable to put up full-fledged antennas (parts and equipment, like everything else, were scarce in the city; in addition, a large, high antenna would attract shelling from surrounding hills).More recently, Danny was working for a UN radio-station initiative as well as several private ventures. The head of UN radio operations in Bosnia, Henry Peirse, said of Danny: ``It will be very hard for us to find somebody with skills anywhere near comparable. There is a rare breed of technical people who can convey to a layman the intricacies of broadcast equipment and present such a well-tuned package at the same time. Mr. Horvat is certainly one of them. ... [he] is a professional of the first calibre."
Please help welcome the Horvat family to town!
Note: Anyone who might have job leads and suggestions, as well as ideas about an affordable apartment and/or used car (and local summer activities for a 4-year-old), please let us know.
FARA Family Picnic
by Bev, N1LOO
The annual FARA Family Picnic will be held on August 31, 1997, again at the YMCA Harrington Out door Center in West Boylston. We can look forward to food (wouldn't be FARA without it), swimming, and boating. We have reserved the Lodge from Noon to 6PM and the life guards will be on duty from 2 - 5 for swimming or boating. We ask that folks over 12 years contribute $5.00 each to help pay for the meat, bread, soft drinks, and munchies. We also ask that each family bring a side dish/salad or dessert to share with the group. Remember there is plenty of room for yard games and beach volleyball is always popular. Bring your games if you have them and also throw in your lawn chairs. Please, let me know if you are coming and hope to see everyone there this year. We do have the Lodge rented so in the off chance that it rains we will still have a place to meet and have a good time.
