Please forward:

In response to Katrina, the need is still growing. There are currently three ways you can volunteer in support of the Red Cross locally. Because of the need for weekday volunteers retirees and others with weekdays free can be a big help. Some employers have allowed volunteers to take administrative leave!

Read below and contact the designated person/s.

  1. At Headquarters--2025 E St., NW Washington, DC

We need more volunteers to help answer phones and other tasks related to coordinating the provision of communications equipment to regional service centers and shelters. No radio communications involved--primarily phone answering and note taking skills because you learn as you go!

Contact: Jeanne [email protected] or 703-971-0384 or Dick [email protected]

  2. At Headquarters--8111 Gatehouse Rd, Falls Church, Va.
    1. Same as above,
      OR
    2. Assembling satellite equipment to be deployed to the Gulf Region. If building things is your specialty.

    Contact: Ed Krom at 571-226-8000.

  3. Shelter operations at the DC Armory and the Red Cross Chapter in Montgomery Co. This involves communications between the shelter and chapter on non-amateur equipment. You must go to the Montgomery Co. Chapter to receive an ID before reporting to the Armory. Two shifts a day are 4.5 hours in length. Contact Allen for information,

Attached pls find instructions for helping. If you are able to give some time, please email Allan (in the instructions cover letter) and let him know so that he can schedule. There is a massive quest for volunteer help with the Katrina relief effort here, and any time you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
