ARES Leaders Please relay this message to all ARES members.

For Virginia ARES members: As of this moment, three Virginia Section ARES members have been asked to deploy to the Katrina disaster area. If you deploy, please let your EC/DEC know that you are deploying.

For all:

Mike Mitchell, who is the Red Cross Communications manager in Montgomery Alabama, is in the process of requesting between 500 to 750 amateur radio operators to assist the Red Cross. The operators will be deployed to any of 230 shelters and/or 22 kitchen stations. There may be further news on deployments as time rolls on.

Operators are being selected from the http://katrina.ab2m.net/ registration site. If you have not registered and wish to volunteer, register now.
