MINUTES OF THE EAST KOOTENAY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

Sept. 12, 2000  Held at King’s Chapel.

 

SICK OR INJURED AMATEURS: George, VE7ERV is doing fine after his surgery.  George, VE7BGO is doing OK.

 

MOTION: Adopt the minutes of the previous meeting as read. Moved VE7RWD Seconded VE7FID.

 

Guests or New Members:  VE7LOC welcomed 2 guests, Greg Corbett, and Don Chappel.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: Hydro bill, registrar of societies reported back to us on our application.  One error was found but there is no need to resubmit.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

VE7LOC     Field day was sparsely attended, only 6 participants.  Those who did, however, had a good time.  The pot luck supper and breakfast the next morning was enjoyed by all.

 

VE7LOC   The Accordian Championships had a full slate of volunteers.  VE7NEK reported our cheque has not been received yet.

 

VE7LOC   There has been no notification that either recipient has registered at an educational institution so no cheques have been issued yet.

 

VE7LOC   The crown assets bid on the Sitars and base stations was successful, 1 base station has been sold.  The Sintars are $25 each and the base station is $35, with each channel costing $30 each.

 

VE7CRJ    The next bingo is Oct. 28th, 11:45.  Volunteers needed.

 

VE7LOC   VE7LOC will continue the investigation into the cost and availability of more modern safety equipment for climbing towers as indicated by a show of hands interest of the members present.

 

VE7CRJ    The Kantronics Packet Communicator 3 Plus has been purchased.

 

VE7LOC   Club emblems are registered with the embroidery place beside the Canadian Tire Gas bar in Cranbrook.  Putting the emblem on a shirt or hat will cost approximately $7.50 (not including the shirt or hat!)

TECHNOLOGY REPORT:

 

VE7CRJ  Creston needs antenna work and filters.

                 Trail needs to relocate their antennas to send back to Creston

                 Baker works well

                 Packet is working so CRJ can now control the Baker repeater

                 Invermere base will be moved next month to a better location.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

VE7LOC   The phone patch is lost to us due to VE7PJ selling his house so the idea was presented to use a cell phone interface (box cost = approx. $250) with a $24 per month fee will give 150 min./month.  A consensus was reached that the club needs an active patch.  This idea would give us local access to the East Kootenays from Creston to Invermere.

 

MOTION  Moved VE7TED that we proceed with the cell phone patch option. Seconded VE7GJR.  CARRIED.

 

VE7LOC   A battery box was needed for the batteries for the Jubilee mountain repeater.  The executive decided to spend the $249.00 necessary.

 

MOTION  Moved VE7RWD that we ratify the decision of the executive to spend the $249.00 for the battery box for Jubilee Mountain repeater, Seconded VE7KD.  CARRIED.
