MINUTES OF THE EAST KOOTENAY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

Oct. 10, 2000  Held at King’s Chapel. 16 members present. Commence 1:39 hrs UCT.

 

SICK OR INJURED AMATEURS: George, VE7BGO is doing OK.

 

MOTION: Adopt the minutes of the previous meeting as read. Moved VE7KFR Seconded VE7TED.

 

Guests or New Members:  VE7LOC welcomed Brian VA7BRJ from Jaffery.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: Cheque from KIOTEC received.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

VE7SKT   Will call Selkirk Sr. Secondary and Mt. Baker Sr. Secondary to find out the status of the EKARC scholarship winners.

 

VE7CRJ    The phone patch has not been installed yet as there needs to be a Motorola cell phone interface found to mate with the Motorola interface.

 

VE7CRJ    There will be a Bingo October 28th, 11:45, volunteers needed.

 

VE7LOC   The battery box for Jubilee Mtn. was welded, painted and installed.  Significant improvement has been noted in coverage.

 

VE7LOC   Climbing equipment  (full body harness plus fall arrestor) was priced out at Princess Auto for $79.95 however it was a rear hook-up type.  More research will be done perhaps at Mountain Equipment Coop.

TECHNOLOGY REPORT:

 

VE7CRJ  The APRS site when moved to Midgley caused problems and was taken down.

                 It will be relocated in another building.

                 Work will be done on the Invermere repeater this week.

                 There is no information on the status of the Creston repeater.

                 Sparwood equipment is being tuned up at VE7CRJ’s

                 VE7CRX, Randy is taking over VE7PJ’s job at Forestry

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

MOTION  Moved VE7RWD that we ratify the $60.00 cost of painting the battery box for Jubilee. Seconded VE7PST.  CARRIED.

 

VE7LOC   There is a small group of people wanting to get their 5 wpm code passed to potentially take advantage of the possible upcoming rule changes to allow more access to HF bands.

 

MOTION  Moved VA7TL , The EKARC endorse a CW class to be conducted in the coming months.  Seconded VE7BMW.  CARRIED.

Following the meeting, Joe, VE7CRJ presented a history and  location update of the local repeaters including codes and frequencies.  A lively discussion followed regarding possible upgrades and links that we would like to see.  Tnx Joe.
