MINUTES OF THE E.K.A.R.C.

Mar. 8th, 2003 Held at the Best Western Inn Restaurant, Cranbrook BC.  14 members present.

MOTION: Adopt the minutes of the previous meeting as read.  Moved VE7ERG, Seconded VA7PST.  CARRIED.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES:

 

VE7CRJ          4 people are now taking the basic course, and will write in the next few weeks.

 

VE7CRJ          The Elk Valley emergency organization meeting was moved to Cranbrook.  A talk on evacuation plans for our area was presented.  Next meeting will be in April in Cranbrook  The EOC room will be in the new RCMP building on Theatre Rd.

 

VE7CRJ          Three positions are vacant.  President; VE7CRJ will let his name stand,  Secretary; VE7LOC will let his name stand, Vice President; VE7KD will let his name stand.

NEW BUSINESS:

 

VE7CRJ          VE7ZIP has volunteered to organize the annual spring banquet.

 

VE7NEK         Our insurance policy has risen by almost 20% to around $900. VE7NEK will investigate the possibility of only purchasing a 3 month policy until the bingo money becomes available to purchase the rest of the policy.

 

VE7KFR         The PEP meeting at the coast focussed on regional managers duties and job descriptions. A course has been tentatively set for Cranbrook in May.

 

VE7CRJ          Field day will be June 21/22 this year.  Submissions for plans will be gratefully accepted.

 

VE7CRJ          Some surplus repeater equipment (MSR 2000) has been acquired for the club from the Williams Lk forestry district.

 

VE7BVC         Gave a report and showed us an APRS “Smart Tracker” he bought on-line from Argentina.  (www.gctelecomar.com)

 

VE7KPB         Described www.geocashing.com which is an activity where people hide a cash of interesting items and publish it’s position on a web page in Lat. & Long.  Others try and find it, leaving other interesting items in return.
