MINUTES OF THE EAST KOOTENAY AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

January 9th, 2000  Held at King’s Chapel. 12members present.

 

SICK OR INJURED AMATEURS: George, VE7BGO is back home in Kimberley, waiting to go back to Calgary for more treatments.

                                                                Mrs. Wekel is not doing too well.

                                                                             VE7ERV George doing well.

OLD BUSINESS:

 

VE7SKT     Letter has been sent to Greg Nyquist stating the scholarship will be good for one year if he completes the requirements.

 

VE7LOC     Tower climbing equipment won't be purchased until tower climbing weather arrives as its life is dated.

 

VE7CRJ      Report of the Bingo Committee.  The following expenditures were planned in the new Bingo Plan. 

                   Year 1                   - training equipment

- overhead projector (portable)

- Vert. Antenna for use with IC706 for portable ops.

-  Honorarium for outside instructor

- Scholarships increased to $500

- Duplexer

Year 2                   - Portable APRS setup

- Base station with laptop & software

- Scholarship $500

- 210C4 Antenna

Expenditures will depend on how many bingos we get. Paperwork is complete, only needing signature.

 

VE7CRJ      The next bingo is February 17th, @ noon.

 

VE7LOC     The emergency radio communications committee (E.K.A.R.C.E.R.C.C.) meet Tuesday, Jan. 16th, 7:00 at Cranbrook Firehall #2 ( P.E.P.).

 

TECHNOLOGY REPORT:

 

VE7CRJ      Minor problems with Jubilee but still working well

VE7LOC     APRS spotty as there is no Red Mtn Machine for coverage in that area.

NEW BUSINESS:

 

VE7LOC     Santa Claus was on standby for the Cranbrook Hospital on Xmas eve but there were no kids in the hospital.

 

VE7LOC     There have been 5 expressions of interest in a new course.  SKT will contact the UBC  club to see if new exam questions have generated a new manual.

 

MOTION    VE7CRJ, seconded VE7TED that $100 be allocated to advertise an Amateur Radio course.  CARRIED

 

VE7LOC     Post meeting activities are needed for the future.  Possibilities might include, CW fun night; building night; contesting night; visit a shack night.  New possibilities needed!

 

VE7LOC     Tabled a summary of Amateur Operator emergency notes, taken from previous meeting survey of members.
