Installing new "Firmware"dated 06-02-2003

Under Firmware we understand the software that is stored in a non-volatile memory like the flash eprom in our Adacom kit.

1.Connect your comport with the RS232 connector of the baseband board by means of a "straight"cable (so not a null modem cable)
2.Power off
3.Put the jumper of JP7 in the Programming position.Normally this jumper is placed on the Run position.
There are two types of the baseband board. On the oldest version you will find a 3 position connector. The position next to the power plug is the Run
position. The next position is not in use en the next one is the Programming position.
On the newer baseband board exists a five position connector  next to the power plug. The first two are not interresting for the moment. The third one is
the Run position, the fourth is not connected and the fifth is the Programming position.(See the printlayout in the sheet DTV_BB_V35_PCB.pdf).(80kb).
4.Power on  (the two LED's near the 60 mHz xtal do not function now)
Remark : Thomas Sailer writes that you momentarily can short the two pins just underneath the Tx board to reset the
board.Stefan and I do not do this
and have no problems.According to Stefan/dg8fac the on/off switching causes also a reset.Rob/pe1chy however has to short the pins ,otherwise he gets
   a timeout error.
5.Place fwtool.exe and cgwin1.dll in a directory. They can stay also in the same directory as all other Adacom files like teletetext.c,minimal.txt etc..
6.Goto the DOS window of your Windows 98 or XP.
7.Type fwtool -d /dev/com1 -fm  and enter(I suppose that you use comport 1.otherwise you type com2).
You will see now the following text :
   D-ATV fimrware tool (c) 2001-2002 Thomas Sailer HB9JN
   FPGA Version DVB-S 20021130233527
   Communication check.........ok
   Downloading FLASH programmer ..............ok
   Writing MCU firmware...
   All ok !

The firmware is now installed

8.Power off
9.Put the jumper back to the Run position
10.Power on (At switching ON the two LED's light, then the red one starts blinking and goes out.
The Encoder(s) have booted well and the frequency has been set etc..
If the red LED continious to light ,something went wrong and you have to do the job ones more.

Remark :
1.The supplied boards are provided with the software as supplied by Stefan/dg8fac on his website (as well as updates).

2.In case the red LED does not light you can eg not search your station on your receiver. The reason can be eg a typing error in your Configuration file.Read
it carefully and compare it eg with minimal.txt.
3.You can change the callsign into your own by changing it in the Cofiguration file
4.Check regularely Stefan's website for updates!
