Arriba

When he started on the radio: Gonzalo started on the radio back in 1982, on the 11 meters band. The eighties was a time of many radio-related activities; lots of DX and local contacts. His first antenna was just a mobile whip in his room window. This antenna allowed him to work some interesting DX, which lead to his growing interest in ham radio. Then, he decided to improve his antenna system, and put up a 5/8 vertical antenna on the roof. He was now more serious about his Dxing activities. His rig at that time was a Super-Star 360 H5; a real luxury in those days. In 1986 he obtained his first ham licence (EC2AQO). At that time he still had the Super Star and an Ariston straight key. His favourite band was 10 meters. He used to operate on SSB on 29.000, and sometimes he would even practice CW very QRSS and with a very characteristic melody.

In 1989 his radio activity started to go down gradually due to his studies and work, until and he quit ham radio temporarily in 1991.

It wasn’t until May 2002 that he became an active station again. Since then he has been a very active CW-only station.

His main areas of interest: Gonzalo is a CW enthusiast. He likes Dxing on 10 and 15 meters and enjoys ragchewing on 40 and 80 meters. In addition, he is a keen contester and knowledgeable of the secrets of propagation. One of his biggest recent achievements has been winning the Spanish CW championship in his category.
