When he started on the radio: Javi got interested in the radio when he was just a child. At that time he would experiment with single transistor talkies. It was in 1986 when he began on the 11 meters band. He soon realized the great DX and experimentation opportunities provided by that band, and decided to take the EB licence (VHF and UHF) as well as the HF novice licence (EC), in 1989. Since then, although he has tried most modes (RTTY, SSTV,…) he always ends up doing SSB and CW – his favourite modes-. His main areas of interest: Javi is a keen contester and DX-chaser. He likes both SSB and CW and prefers the high bands on HF. He likes to run pile-ups in an orderly manner, and you will probably hear him on the contests running pile-ups efficiently. In 1995 he got very good results in the CQWW SSB contest. In fact he was the best Spanish station and runner-up in the Word, in 14 Mhz SSB low power. From then he has never stopped doing contests, always in the MM or MS categories with the following call signs: ED2BB, ED2URV, EA2RCA, ED2JJ and ED2TA. He holds the following diplomas: TPEA, CIA ORO and 100EACW. He is still working on WAS, DXCC and EADXCC, with over 290 entities confirmed in mixed mode (SSB and CW). In 1998 he went on his first DX-pedition in Izaro island (EU-134). He was in charge of running CW station with the ED2IZA call sign. It was a real adventure, bearing inmind the tough conditions of this uninhabited island.
Now he continues to do contests and chasing DX. You may well work him in a contest with the ED2JJ or ED2TA callsigns. Copyright © 2003 EA2CK. All rights reserved. |
