500 kHz X-BAND QSO’s and SWL reports

in Dec.06 i become interest about activity on the low bands 505 and 137 kHz. In 2005 i already received the beacon DI2AG on 404 Khz with a FD4 and TS-480. DI2AG transmitting now on 505 kHz. With my eaves gutter (Regenrinne) antenna and my FT-857 no reception was possible -> to much QRM below 3 mHz. I purchased then from PA0DRT a Mini-Whip antenna. A very small and cheap active antenna (building this antenna is normally a nice homebrew project, but i was a little bit lazy and decided for plug and play :-))

I was impressed how good the Miniwhip works with just my FT-857 (which is really not the best receiver on this low freq.). Following pictures showing some of my SWL “QRSS and DCFW” signals. So far I received signals from F, G, RA, DL, PA, I, CT and W.

Cross-Band-QSO list

1.) 17.Sep.2010 X-Band QSO Nr.5 with Lubos, OK2BVG in QRSS3/CW on 501.888 / 3570 KHz

My Rig: FT857: Tx on 80m – 100W, CW, FD-4; Rx on 501.888KHz – Teletron TE-704C + PA0DRT Miniwhip ant.

2.) 25.Mar.2008 X-Band QSO Nr.4 with Gus, SM6BHZ in QRSS1/QRSS3 on 3545/504.5KHz (tnx QSL)

My Rig: FT857: Tx on 80m – 80W, QRSS1, FD-4; Rx on 504.5KHz – FT-857 + PA0DRT Miniwhip ant. (switched man. Freq.+Ant.)

(i was very weak on 80m this evening, so from my side only QRSS1 was possible, but booming MF signal from Gus, CW easily possible!)

3.) 17.Mar.2008 my 3rd X-Band QSO with Peter, G3LDO in CW/QRSS on 3540/501.2KHz

My Rig: FT857: Tx on 80m – 80W, CW, FD-4; Rx on 501.2KHz – FT-857 + PA0DRT Miniwhip ant. (switched man. Freq.+Ant.)

4.) 11.Mar.2008 my 2nd X-Band QSO with Chris, G3XIZ in QRSS on 3576/503.95KHz

My Rig: FT857: Tx on 80m – 30W, QRSS1, FD-4; Rx on 503.95KHz – EKD-300 + PA0DRT Miniwhip ant.

I had a sked with Chris at 9pm GMT. His signal was weak in the beginning, but from minute to minute it came up.

            final 73 from G3XIZ

5.) 20.Nov.2007 X-Band CW QSO with Mal, G3KEV on 3553/502KHz

My Rig: FT857: Tx on 80m – 85W, FD-4; Rx on 502KHz – just Miniwhip ant. (CW,AGC off, 10db att.)

I had a really good copy of G3KEV – here a sample audio file: g3kev_dd7pc_xband_502_3533_20Nov07.mp3
