Basic member

As the name implies, this is a basic level of membership. There will be no required training, simply registering with the EC and having a valid amateur radio operatorís license in good standing will be the only requirement. Members at this level will be able to participate in ARES sponsored public service events and may serve in some minor roles during actual activations.

Membership into Dallas County ARES is divided into tiers. Each tier has a different level of training required. The level of participation is also tiered as well. See the descriptions below. If you are interested in becoming a member, contact Bob Dittert.

Associate member

Members at this level will have completed the following Emergency Management Institute (EMI) training courses: IS-100 and IS-700. It is also recommended that these members take the ARRL Emergency Communications Course, Level 1 (EC-001). Members at this level will be able to participate in any ARES sponsored public service event and will also be available for any activation that ARES may be called into. Other training may be required, depending on the nature of the event and the requirements of the agency being served. Any additional training will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Training courses

The EMI classes are offered by FEMA and are free. The ARRL courses have a cost associated with them.
