QRP SIG

QRP comes from the Morse code short for "Reduce your power". In current amateur radio practice, operating QRP means transmitting with less than 10 watts voice, or less than 5 watts using CW (Morse code).

QRP has a appeal across the entire spectrum of the amateur radio hobby. For old timers, operating QRP gives them a new challenge. Perhaps they have already worked 100 countries using 100 watts so now they can try it again using low power.

For new operators, it offers a cheap introduction to the hobby. Used QRP rigs and new kits can be put on the air for around $100.00.

Hams who are interesting in building their own rigs will have lots of fun with the abundance of kits and homebrew projects.

Here are a few links to some nice QRP web sites which focus on activities in California.
