Wie von AMSAT-R mitgeteilt wurde, soll die 12-Jahre alte MIR-Station f�r

weitere 2 bis 3 Jahre im Orbit bleiben. Es hat sich ein bisher

unbekannter internationaler Investor gefunden, der den Weiterbetrieb der

russischen Raumstation finanziert. Eine endg�ltige Entscheidung soll

noch im Januar gefaellt werden. Urspruenglich sollte die MIR-Station im

Juni 1999 au�er Betrieb genommen werden und kontrolliert vergl�hen.

Die russische MIR-Raumstation hat bisher ueber 60 Kosmonauten beherbergt,

davon viele mit einer Amateurfunkgenehmigung.

Several news reports have indicated that the Russian space station Mir

may get a three year life extension if private investors can be found

to pay the expenses necessary to keep the spacecraft in operation.

Details are expected to be worked out in the next three months.  It

costs an estimated $250 million a year to keep the Mir space station

in operation.
