Mode
Several emission modes were used from Space Shuttle to make
contacts with earth:
- Voice - Personal contacts with ham astronauts
on board Space Shuttle. The QSO are done in FM, VHF band.
Beside a particular mission, those are the most dificult
contacts.
- Packet - Computer contacts using AX.25 protocol,
1200 bd speed. Thanks to W5RRR-1
Robot mode, it's possible to do several QSO each pass,
and several hundrents a mission!
- TLM - Telemetry, using synthesized voice or packet.
During
SPRE it was possible the digipeat of frames using unproto
mode.
- SSTV - Slow Scan TV. Digital mode, used to send
still pictures. Each frame is decomposed in several lines and than
encoded as audio tone's, using several possible modes, mostly
created and denveloped by radioamateurs.
On SAREX missions ROBOT 1200C mode was used.
- FSTV (ATV uplink) - Fast Scan TV. Similar to previous
mode, but transmission speed is substancial superior.
Unfortunatly this mode, as same as SSTV, wasn't used many times,
mostly due equipment size and weight.
