| Situated in the South of Chile, about 500 Km. south of Temuco. the Chiloé Archipelago comprises the "big island", which is 180 km from North to South (the second largest South American island after Tierra del Fuego). This island is shelted by the Cordillera de la Costa which stops the strong Pacific winds, creating a micro-climate around the coasts of the inside sea. The islands in this inside sea (Quenac, Chauques, Quehi, Chaulinec and Desertores) are dotted around and separated by numerous waterways of extraordinary beauty, between reefs, beaches and much vegetation. Some islands are so close that at low tide you can walk from one to another. |
