About me
I was a SWL when I was a teacher in Shanghai Jiaotong
University. Got the callsign BZ4DIP in 1990. I was permitted to operate in
club stations. But it was still difficult for me to get on HF in those days.
Most of the time was spent in front of an old military receiver with a 3m
wire antenna. I enjoyed it very much. It was a dream that I can have my own
transmitter. After that I went to work in Guangdong, so lost my interest for
about 10 years.
In the middle of 2002, I was told that I can change my old
license to set up a personal ham radio station as BG4ALC. I owned my first transceiver
that's the lovely FT-817. I use this radio mostly on UHF and some times on
HF with a fish pole. Soon I found QRP is not fit for me as a
"beginner". I got a FT-100 and wanted to work more on HF band. I
realized the ant is too poor for DXing. In 2003 I changed the FT-100 to a
JRC-145 and got a 4 band vertical GP. I never heard so many signals out of
the speaker and got very happy with it. I made over 1000 QSOs in following
month and knew I run in the HF DXing.
I attended the cqww 2003
ssb contest in which achieved the No.1 of SOAB LP SSB in China and set a new
Chinese record in this item. I was greatly encouraged. In the middle of
2004, I get the second class license with a new callsign BD4ALC. I
also attended the IARU HF Championship as a member
of B4HQ and learnt a lot from the old timers. I played several hours in cqww 2004 ssb
and cw with QRP(only the FT-817 + GP). Got a lot of fun from the contest and QRP operating.
After that I sold my JRC-145.
Decided deeply go into the QRP world.
