I grew up listening to my father operate his amateur radio station and tried as a youngster to get licensed a couple of times but could never get my Morse code up to sufficient speed to pass. Years passed by and my father is silent key now. In 2011 a friend approached me and asked if he organized a class and lined up an Elmer to teach us would I be interested in trying to get my Novice license. I joined his class and we got our novice licenses on 7/22/2011. My original call sign given me was KD0PFG. With in a month I applied for and was granted my fathers call sign of WB0AKV which I proudly use today. That same friend encouraged me to start studying for my General license and we both upgraded to General class on 5/26/2012. For Christmas 2013 I received an Icom 7000 for my first HF rig and have been having lots of fun getting a station setup and getting on the air. Many thanks go out to my friend KD0PFC and our Elmer K2KR for all the help and encouragement to get me to join the ham ranks! I am currently active with the Amateur Radio Missionary Service (ARMS) Christian fellowship net. www.qsl.net/arms As an employee of the Salvation Army I am also active with the Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network
