LARRY BROCK

N0LRB

Hello everyone! My name is Larry Brock, N0LRB. I have been licensed since May of 2020.  How did I get into Ham Radio?  I had a friend that had let his license lapse. He was able to get his license renewed and even get his old call-sign. I looked into it and was able to study...learn...and test because of Covid. After tests began to given again, I passed the Technician and General at the same time. My first call-sign was KF0AFX.  I held that call-sign till October of 2020 when I applied for a vanity call-sign of N0LRB. While my wife was at the Mayo Clinic, I began to study for an upgrade to Extra.  I was able to upgrade in April of 2021. Since then, I was able to get on the HF bands!! I am enjoying every minute!!!! I have been bitten by the POTA bug and enjoy being a hunter for POTA.

My station consists of an Icom 718 with a dipole antenna that is resonant on 20 meters. Our home in Rapid City, SD is on a small city lot. So I am limited in how big of an antenna that I can place in my garden. For UHF/VHF, I have a Yaesu 7250 mobile radio that I use a base station with a J-Pole antenna. That radio was a gift from a friend that has really been an “Elmer” to me in many areas.

How did I find out about ARMS? I was scanning the 20 meter band one morning and I heard a southern voice giving a call for check-ins with the ARMS net.  Being from the South originally, the voice grabbed my attention. It was Denis WD4ACH located in Tennessee. And as they say the rest is history. I sent in my membership application  and was graciously accepted into the membership in November 2021.

In May of 2022 I was able to retire from my job as a Principal/Teacher. I began teaching in August of 1981 in a Christian school in Dade City, Florida. I was able to minister there as Principal, teacher and Assistant to the Pastor. In January of 1996, the Lord began to work in my heart about moving to Rapid City, SD. In August of that year, my family stepped out by faith and we moved to Rapid City, SD. Shortly after we arrived, the Lord allowed us to work in the academy that is a ministry of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle. After 26 years at LBT, I retired from being Principal/Teacher. I now serve as church  treasurer and deacon.

My wife Darlene and I have been married for 49 years. She has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma.  We are trusting the Lord for His continuing healing for her cancer. We praise the Lord for what he has accomplished through this illness.  We have 3 children, Stephanie, Philip, and Tyler.  We also have 6 grandchildren.

My favorite Bible verse is Psalms 34:8 - “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.“
