Playground of yachties, the US Virgin Islands are a quick flight from Puerto Rico or ferry boat ride from the British Virgin Islands (less than a mile away at the closest point!). A curious mixture of American and British influences, car steering wheels are on the left (as in America) but driving is done on the left side of the road (as in Britain), the only US soil where driving is not done on the right.
Even the license plates in this part of the world are colorful.

A few shots of Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the US Virgin Island on St Thomas.

The famous lookout from Mountaintop, the highest point on St Thomas. Here, islands from both the British and US Virgin Islands fill the view. In this shot, St Thomas is in the foreground, St John in the upper right, and Tortola (BVI) upper left.

Gorgeous view from the Drake Seat overlook, the place that is rumored to be where pirate captain Francis Drake used to watch for ships on the horizon.

Not from an officially-designated scenic point, but I love this shot because it was taken from the vantage point of a completely random street I happened to steer my rental car down. Imagine waking up to a view like this every morning...

Though literally right next to St Thomas, the island of St John has no airport and is only accessible by small ferry boat. People flock here as much for the quiet as for the spectacular scenery. Below, a shot of the island's only real "city" of size, Cruz Bay.

Even on a weekend (when this picture was taken), beautiful beaches can be had all to yourselves. Here's a shot of a family playing in perfect solitude at Hawksnest Bay.

A couple photos from Trunk Bay, arguably St John's prettiest place and most photographed spot.

Luxury homes are built on a breathless scale of size, design, and no doubt price.

Incredible view from Mt Bordeaux, the tallest spot on St John.
