Representing the opposite of Hawaii in nearly every way, I have a special fascination with Antarctica. The 1994 expedition to Peter I Island was the impetus of a complete station overhaul and my rebirth as a true DXer. Having failed to get into the log of the VP8SSI expedition earlier, I made sure I would not have the same problem when 3Y0PI hit the air. In the weeks prior to that crew landing on the island, I installed a brand new tribander and added an 800 watt amplifier to top things off. My efforts did not go unrewarded; I contacted 3Y0PI on only my second call in a massive pileup and worked them on 5 bands SSB in all before they finished.
