American Samoa

One of the largest mountain peaks in American Samoa, the Rainmaker towers above Tutuila and is one of the reasons why it rains so much in this part of the world.

---------------------------------------

The vertical topography dominates the view everywhere on the island, including this shot from the airport in Pago Pago.

---------------------------------------

A shot of Pago Pago harbor from the very tall mountains that run the length of Tutuila.

---------------------------------------

Across the mountains to the other side of the island and the dramatic view of the northern coastline.

---------------------------------------

An aerial shot of Fagatele Bay, one of the prime scuba diving and snorkeling spots on the island of Tutuila.

---------------------------------------

A 40 minute plane ride east of Tutuila is the Manua Island group, three beautiful specks just a few miles across.
Here is the south coast of Ofu, one of the most enchanting views in all of the South Pacific.

---------------------------------------

The spectacular coast of Ofu is part of the National Park of American Samoa.
Ofu's signature mountain peaks are to the left; Olosega's taller mountains are to the right.

Ofu's peaks viewed from the northern side of the island.

---------------------------------------

Some of the fragrant flowers that cover the area.

---------------------------------------

At the very eastern tip of Ofu looking toward the island of Olosega on the horizon in the background. The beach here is gorgeous with breathtaking snorkeling; I witnessed everything from a dazzling lionfish sunning himself on the rocks to a blacktrip reef shark making his rounds.

---------------------------------------

Ofu & Olosega are so close that capturing a photograph of one from the other is difficult even with a wide angle lens; below is my 'creative' solution to the problem!

---------------------------------------

A couple shots from just across the bridge on Olosega, looking back at Ofu.

---------------------------------------

The national park extends offshore to include Ofu's lovely coral reef.

Some scenes of the wonderful sea life!
