Amateur Radio Operating
Operating: to perform a function to produce an effect |

I enjoy many facets of Amateur Radio. I have been fortunate to accumulate some very good equipment and I have operated in several locations. A typical day for me includes waking about 4:30 AM or 10:00-11:00 GMT to listen for opening to the west on top band. I have also found a few friends on a 40M net called the "Corn Cob Net" on 7.274.1 Mhz. A friendly all inclusive net which just shares the time with fellow hams traveling to "work" but words like "work" an "snow" and other 4 letter equivalents are discouraged. As the original net control "tucker" use to say.. after meeting here your day must improve.. it can't get any worse. HI HI. I try to get on the radio daily after work or in the evening to "work" a few stations as well but Family comes first. | |||
If you would like a challenge in the Amateur radio arena go no further than "TOP BAND". The 160M band from 1.8 Mhz to 2.0 Mhz. provides ample challenge for the most seasoned radio veterans. While local and even continental contacts can be relatively easy with decent equipment. Trans continental contacts can be tough form the central U.S. I LIKE CHALLENGES! |
DXPeds I have had the opportunity to go to a few places to operate radio. I have operated mobile from several states and Canadian provinces SK,MB,AB and ON. I spent a couple of weekends in North Dakota with good friends operating in the ARRL RTTY Roundup. I've also been invited to Peter 1, Africa, and FK5 but have other commitments which come first. My family is, and will always be first. SOME DAY! |
QSLing I'm not unlike many in this hobby. I enjoy receiving QSL cards and seeing who and where I have been successful in contacting. I have always answered QSL cards. Although I am a little less enthusiastic about them than I used to be, I still believe it is an obligation and remember the excitement I used to experience and hope others will feel that way when they get my card. See some of the cards I have. |
Contesting I am a competitive person and although I can no longer crash helmets with other large men, I can challenge my skills in less physical competitions of Ham Radio Contesting. As a member of the Caribbean Contesting Consortium (CCC) I am proud to be associated with a great group of guys that call Curacao their club station. Here I share my contest experiences, approaches, and general philosophy. |
