Note: The TIP31 (NPN, BVceo = 40V) is a substitute for the 2SD1406. The TIP32 (PNP, BVceo = -40V) is a substitute for the 2SB834. The TIP31 and TIP32 are available at Radio Shack and most electronic parts houses.
