A new radio is taking shape in our imagination - a successor to the IC-756Pro II embodying certain IC-7800 design features, such as:
DMOS first mixers (as used in the IC-7800)
Switched 6 kHz and 15 kHz roofing filters
Relay-switched RF BPF bank (the RF BPF's in the IC-756Pro II are diode-switched)
Image-reject (I/Q) down-converter to bring the 64.455 MHz 1st IF down to the 36 kHz final (DSP) IF in one step
Selectable Spectrum Scope resolution bandwidths: 1 kHz and 100 Hz
Perhaps an optional outboard preselector unit controlled via CI-V
TMS320C6713-GDP TI DSP chipset (as used in the IC-7800)
RJ-45 (10/100BaseT) control interface, with Web-based remote configuration and administration menus.
Such a radio would offer much of the capability of the IC-7800, at a price in the $2500 ~ 2700 range.
The above is pure speculation, of course. But then, so were our "IC-785" ruminations - and they ended up pretty close!
