JOTA/JOTI 2002
The even was held at the Coronation Camp, Botanical gardens, Penang from 18th till 20th October 2002. JOTA-Jamboree on the Air was organised by Bob Chee LS (9M2CL) whose callsign was used as the calling station for the event. He was ably assisted by nine other volunteers namely:-
The station at the site consists of a HF set and two VHF sets. The event of 3 days/2nights for boy scouts and girl guides had a good attendance of about 500 participants. They had hands-on experience of ham radio and its operating procedures, the morse code and PSK mode QSO. Camping and other activities such as obstacle course, nighthike, sketches and dances were also part of their activities.
Hams visited the JOTA stations, among were Lim 9M2LS, Saito 9M2SX, Ong 9M2KR, Mook 9M2RA, Wong 9M2WG, Adrain 9W2NE, Aminor 9W2BJ, Ibrahim 9W2IZ, Ruddie 9W2NT, Francis 9W2YC, Ang 9W2TY, Alan 9W2PY, and Choy 9M2WK. They were issued with "eyeball" QSO cards bearing the official logo when they signed the guest book.
Thank you to Gary (9M2YW) and Tan (9W2DX) for their help to set-up the station and also to Adrain (9W2NE) and Aminor (9W2BJ) for their help in dismantling equipment and antenna on the closing day.
Although everyone was tired on the final day, the success of the events brought smiles and a warm sense of achievement. When asked whether they want to do it again, the answer was a big YES.
