20 m CW AMATEUR RADIO STATION

Amateur radio is a hobby. It needs knowledge about electronics and operation of transmitters. Every amateur radio operator must have a valid license. In Sri Lanka, the license is given by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission. The operator has to sit for an examination. This needs knowledge about electronics and operating procedures. To become a genuine amateur, the person has to pass the CW examination. CW was the method used by the prime amateurs and it is still in use today.

An amateur radio operator transmits signals using a transceiver. These may be HF, VHF, UHF or SHF signals. HF signals are transmitted through the ionosphere. They go to distance locations of earth. VHF and UHF signals are short range used for inland communications. An amateur radio operator can talk with any person in any place on earth. This is the pleasure of this hobby.

An amateur radio operator has to setup his own station. Designing his or her own station is the pride of this hobby. The person may use AC power or a battery. It needs to setup an antenna. With these, it is possible to work at any time.
