Subject: WebRing Is Integrating with Yahoo!
We've been busy making changes to the WebRing system, and we want to
tell you all about it!
Big News
The current status report on the WebRing homepage
(http://www.webring.org/status.html) mentions
we are making changes and improvements to the system as we integrate
with Yahoo!. As many of you have been through a transition like this
before, we wanted to tell you about the changes before they happen, keep
our lines of communication open and give you some pointers in advance to
make the move simple, fast and easy.
The First Step: Get your Y! ID
Get a Yahoo! ID and password now for free access to Yahoo!WebRing and
all other personalized Yahoo! services. As with all other Yahoo!
personal services, you'll need to sign up for a Yahoo! ID.

For WebRing RingMasters and Members, the Y! ID will allow you to
associate your rings and sites in the new system, and access all the
great communication tools, service and products that Yahoo! offers. We
encourage you to sign up now for your Yahoo! ID and get ready for the
all the exciting things to come.
New WebRing Features
For a long time WebRing RingMasters and Members have shared ideas and
input with the WebRing staff. We have incorporated many of your ideas
into the new system. One of the most exciting, and most requested, new
features is the server side navigation bar. Rings are often broken, or
dysfunctional, if the navigation HTML fragment is incorrect. We've
worked out a system that allows the navigation bar to be customizable
yet is served from the WebRing servers, minimizing complicated
instructions and easy-to-make mistakes.
Ownership of Content
We have been asked if the integration of WebRing into Yahoo! will affect
the ownership of the content on members' pages. We would like to assure
you that it will not.
Don't Worry, Be Happy!
The existing WebRing links and navigation will continue to function for
a period of time after the transition. We encourage RingMasters to
migrate to the new system and communicate with Ring Members about the
move. The WebRing community will receive notification of the
transition, complete with instructions on where to go and what to do.
We just want you to know it's coming and stay tuned....
We always appreciate your feedback and your active participation in
WebRing.

WebRing News
01/16/2001
We have been working hard and made many improvements to the management pages and features of Yahoo! WebRings. We are very excited about these changes and think you will be too. Read on for further information.
Management Toolbar
The Management toolbar (located on the left side of the Hub page and within site and Ring management pages) has been retooled is now divided into 3 sections: Member Tools, Management Tools, and Ring Options.
Member Tools
Ring members can use these tools to help manage their sites. The newly revised Get Navigation Bar page makes it simple to find and install the Ring navigation bar on your site. And now you can order the list of navigation bars on your site. For example, if you want your cooking Rings to show up before your political Rings, you can arrange it!
Management Tools
For RingMasters, the Management tools are faster and more efficient than ever. The Manage Members page now includes icons that tell you the status of the site on the Hub page and in the navigation of the Ring. New links display the status of the navigation bar: working, broken, or unknown. The new Manage Members page also includes a link to email members individually. And the Process New Sites, Email Ring Members, and Invite Others pages have been fine-tuned to make performing these actions a snap.
Ring Options
New features help RingMasters organize their Rings quickly and easily. The Customize Ring page contains all the options for customizing your Ring navigation bar, image, and color scheme. The Ring Order page includes a cool new feature -- you can now choose to auto rearrange your Ring in a variety of ways or manually arrange the Ring in the order you decide. Now you have a number of options for efficiently rearranging your Ring. Plus, you can click the "Navigation View" link on any management page to return to the Ring Hub page.
List All My Rings page
We've moved the link to the standard Yahoo! personalization bar and renamed it "List All My Rings." The page itself has changed too. Now you can see the Ring name, your site name, and the status of your site within the Ring all on one line. It's a simplified presentation of Ring information that makes it easier to see the list of your site(s).
We hope you find these improvements useful! As always, we appreciate your feedback. Please send any comments, suggestions, or questions to: [email protected].
