Withernsea My Home Town
Nestled on the East Yorkshire coast is the small seaside town of Withernsea, famous for 2 things 1st our inland lighthouse, towering 127ft (38m) over the shops and houses now switched off the brilliant white structure built in 1892 stands proud after its many years of protecting the seafarers of the world, Our 2nd claim is Withernsea is the home of the film actress of Kay Kendall, possible remembered for her starring role in the London to Brighton rally film " Genevieve". In fact our two great are combined in that the lighthouse now is the Kay Kendall museum, and is a great place to visit if you come to Withernsea.
Withernsea's major forms of income are the holiday industry and the town boasts 6 major holiday sites and several Bed and Breakfast establishments catering for visitors from all over the UK and Europe, our second is the shellfish industry, having its own compound Withernsea's fishing community catch Brown Crab and Lobsters Which are Shipped by road to the major port of Bridlington aprox 20kms north further along the coast, there the catch are kept in live tanks for shipping world wide.
The most beautiful part of living in Withernsea is the setting, Withernsea is placed were the countryside meets the sea, After leaving Kingston upon Hull driving east into the rolling fields of Holderness you get a sense of calm and peace, the groomed hedgerows, golden corn fields frame the tranquility of living in the Holderness area of East Yorkshire, the vast views across undurlating fields give you a start of the untouched land, 4 miles from Withernsea looming out of the distance the Withernsea lighthouse appears and continuing until the Holderness countryside rolls on to the golden sands of the North Sea beach at Withernsea.
