I have had an interest in radio since childhood but really got involved with it only in 1978, whilst still resident in Durban, on the East coast of South Africa; hence the callsign ZS5JDS. 

     Later, in 1985 I moved to the Free State goldfields and was resident in Welkom where I acquired the callsign ZS4JDS.   During this period I developed a comprehensive amateur radio station and became an avid DX'er!    I was a member of the "Breakfast Club" on 28.480Mhz USB, which was hosted by Paul Vest, W8GIO, out of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, USA.

     Since 1996 I have been resident here in the Vaal Triangle close to the Vaal River, approx. 60 kilometres south of Johannesburg.
