On 1/01/2003 I activated a Summit
locally, as part of the SOTA movement
worldwide to introduce the local branch
that we are planning on launching on that day. For more details on this
operation check here.
We (ZS6DX and ZS6KVR) are also planning a mini DX'pedition in 2003, we do not
seem to get enough time for this but a trip to V5 now appears to be on the cards
for July. I will keep you informed.
Current possible destinations include Swaziland (3DA), Lesotho (7P8), Botswana
(A2), Zimbabwe (Z2), Mozambique (C9) and Namibia (V5)
Since we have done V5, A2 and 3DA before the current favorite is 7P8. All
these countries are within easy driving distance from our QTH. The political
situation in Zimbabwe will rule out that destination for while.....
The plan is to activate bands/modes that are in demand, maybe WARC bands
and/or PSK31 but this is flexible, we will be 2 operators so we will try
and have a station on the air round the clock or at least as long as conditions
permit. I will also take 6m equipment along. The station will be equipped
with good antennas and a amplifier to make it workable by most.
In 2003 we will be spending some time in Europe, using our new Euro passports, attending the
Ham fest in Frederickshaven, and touring through a few other countries while visiting family
in Germany and Holland. We will be taking
equipment along to make a few contacts. I am considering taking an IC-706 or
maybe a FT-817. I am hoping to meet some amateurs that I have had some contacts
with while in Europe.

Hope to see you in the pile-up !
