TV Carrier Frequencies
Last update:
28 March 2009
The transfer of Spanish TV ch E2 Madrid to ch 26 has been delayed due to interference from another TV outlet, presumably also on ch 26. The ch E2 TX was scheduled to cease operation on 30/9/2005 but is operating normally. The Muro TX in Portugal is operating normally.
All the rest of
Europe's ch E2 band 1 TV transmitters are now switched off. The
status
of the Albanian/Balkans ch E2 TX in unknown.
Madrid ch E2 to close 3 April 2010?
March 2009:- Only 3 African ch E2 TXs are now being received: Cameroon
drifting around 48.2498, Kenya 48.249960, Equatorial Guinea reported on
48.2506 but not received here for a long time. Also there was a
mysterious TX with several bursts on 48.250212 in the mid afternoon 19
Mar 2009
This is the
list of frequencies that have been gathered mostly by measurement, in
Where 6 decimal places are indicated, coupled to a reception date, the results reflect 1 Hz accuracy as compared to an exp-10 ppm GPS-derived frequency standard, i.e. 0.02 Hz/50 MHz. A frequency range indicates drift on the carrier or the peak-to-peak frequency swing observed over a period of possibly some years.
Directions indicate antenna headings from
Where no dates are recorded the TX has not been received and the data
has been
incorporated from the measurements of others, mostly using the
techniques
mentioned on the main page.
In places the list is grouped into TV offsets such as “6m”. This
indicates a
multiple of 1302 Hz (for 625-line television) x 6 subtracted from the
nominal
offset of zero, e.g. 48.250.000 – (6 x 1302) = 48.242.188 where the key
player
is the Portuguese outlet at Muro, received
nightly on
TEP here in northern South Africa. Similarly, a quantity of 8p
indicates 8 x
1302 Hz added to the nominal zero offset frequency (yielding 48.260416)
where
the main TX received is Grunten, Germany
In 625-line TV, line frequency bunches appear at intervals of 15625 Hz
(312.5
lines*50 Hz = 15625 Hz) above and below the carrier (but limited to the
VSB
filter response below the carrier). These have considerable power, with
the
normal 50/60 Hz sidebands interleave, and must not be mistaken for
fundamental
carriers.
Once sufficiently strong, TV carriers
differ in
having a comb of either 50 or 60 Hz sidebands caused by the field
synchronization interleave while harmonics of broadcast transmitters,
local
cordless phones and “birdies” in the RX do not produce these 50/60 Hz
sidebands.
The list below records TV carriers received by TEP or F2 propagation in
