ZL6LH  ~ Castlepoint ~  2000

2000 and our destination was Castle Point. Facing a trip of nearly 700km we decided to travel in one vehicle with a trailer.  We took a lot of gear this year 3 complete stations with 2 sb200's and plenty of spares just in case.  The team was again John ZL1ALZ, Dave ZL1AMN, John ZL1BYZ, David ZL1TTS and we also had John ZL2BHS who lives in Masterton and would meet us at Castle Point.  It was a long trip down and for a good part of it rained.  When we arrived it was
bucketing down, fortunately it cleared and we got the necessary setting up done.
This year we had the triband on the 15m pole and we had also decided that 10m was worth taking a 3 element mono bander.  The weather packed it in and we were experiencing some very high winds, I think we were in direct line with the south pole.  We decided to lower the main pole half way and lay the 10m yagi over so the director was on
the ground and tied it there so it wouldn't cart wheel away.
To the others amusement I tweaked the tuner and carried on making qso's with the 10m antenna in this position, short path hi hi.
The pole supporting the 80/40m antenna snapped in the wind and the tribander went off tune so we had to knock up a dipole for 20m.
Fortunately again we had really good accommodation with power etc and were very comfortable.
