Scenes from YA1RS - Kabul, Afghanistan

Bob YA1RS with the 2M and 6M EME station
IC-706MK2G, Acom 1000 PA (4CX800/GU74b)
Laptop for generating JT65 and CW, GPS for time sync
Not in the picture, homebrew 2M amplifier (pair Gi7b)

The homebrew 6M yagi ... 6M (21') long boom
9.4dBd gain, 50ohm split dipole feed with ferrite choke "balun"
The SWR was really 1:1 ... 1050W fwd and 0W ref at 50.110!

The 2M EME array ... 4 x 9 element yagis
Homemade, extensively modfied M2 2M9SSB antennas
12.1 dBd gain each, 50ohm split dipole feed with ferrite choke "balun"
Total array gain 18.05dBd, array G/T -3.81db, array SWR <1.05:1

Coaxial cable power divider

Split dipole 50ohm feed with choke "balun"
You will note the common theme of driven element arrangement I like to use!
It is so simple to design a 50ohm feedpoint yagi with computer software
and so simple to make, especially with the limited resources in places I go to!
The famous "TV Mountain" in the middle of Kabul city as the background

YA Ham Radio Operators Convention 12 May 2003!

YA1RS HF Antenna in the winter
I was really worried about the ice load, but the antenna survived!
