Scenes from 4S7CCG - Colombo, Sri Lanka

Bob 4S7CCG and the view from the apartment
over the Indian Ocean. I regularly heard TV indicators
from the Midle East with this HB 4 element yagi
and finally worked a few Europeans on 6M.

The market in Colombo contained "everything".
With square aluminium tube and TV yagi insulators
I could make some nice looking 8 element yagis.

Testing one of the yagis on the balcony.
... note my favourite 50 ohm split dipole feed!
The SWR was 1.14:1 at 144.1 and flat 1:1 at 145.3
... almost exactly as YO said it would be!

The 4 modified W1JR yagis on the stacking frame.
I used square section aluminium stock for the booms and
vertical stacking arms. The array lined up "square" with
a quick adjustment to the boom struts. Wonderful stuff!

Japanese made 8D-FB low loss coax in the phasing
harness and power divider. Low loss equivalent to LMR600.

The completed array with masthead preamp box in place. Having
my HB GaAsFET preamp at the masthead made a HUGE difference
in RX performance. JT65 could decode signals from 100W stations!

Next I built up a 32 element yagi for 70cm. It was on a 7.2M
long boom made from thin-wall 19mm square aluminium tubing.
Understandably it waved about in the wind alarmingly!

... another HB yagi design with 50 ohm direct feed!
I managed to work HB9Q and K2UYH on JT65c
and DL9KR on CW with just 70W output.
