WARO NEWS

March 2000

Hi All,

Here we are into Autumn after a very warm, dry summer. I have been having great fun on the HF bands especially 10 and 12 Metres. It has been great to catch up with YLs in many different countries. Although I must admit that I have not heard very many YLs on any of the bands, mainly OMs.

Te Puke Amateur Radio Club decided that it was time that the combined amateur radio clubs in the Bay of Plenty should get to gether and hold a Market Day. This was held on 4th March at the Paengaroa Community Hall.

The WARO members in the area saw this as a great opportunity to hold a fundraising stall for YL 2000. Laureen ZL1BTP and Maxine ZL1FW set up the stall and Te Puke Amateur Radio club kindly donated three beautiful raffles to the YLs for their fundraising venture. There were many YL's in attendance even from as far afield as Auckland.

The stall proved to be very successful. Hams came from far and wide and a great day was had by all. We hope that the Bay of Plenty Clubs decide to make this an annual event as it is a great venue and an ideal place to hold a YL get together.

Our condolences go to Win ZL2G1 and family on the sad loss of Ron ZL2TT. Ron was a very active member of the Amateur Radio fraternity in New Zealand being an NZART Councillor and a keen DXer. Ron was always regularly heard on the Thelma Souper Memorial Contest. We will miss him.

Condolences also go to Sue Powell an associate member of WARO and her family on the sudden passing of her OM John ZL3TRW at the young age of 35.
