Klondyke Node Project

The VHF Group operates a 2m/70cm node at its Klondyke site for packet radio (computer-to-computer) communication. This installation is an upgrade of the former data repeater (a voice repeater without tail). At this stage, the system comprises the former data repeater's transmitter and receiver, a pair of Tekk KS-1000 data transceivers, and the node controller box. As well as operating it in the same manner as the data repeater, user can also connect to the controller box which operates under the callsign ZL1PKT. The bitregenerating 2m port generates new "clean" packets from incomming packets, allowing users to connect to other users and services on the 2m port, or after connecting to ZL1PKT, connecting via the 70cm 9600Bd G3RUH port to users and services on the 70cm port. As soon as suitable software becomes available, TCP/IP connectivity will also be provided. If and when the Digital National System, which is planned by a group in Wellington, reaches Klondyke, we plan to provide a connection to it.
