Welcome to the Web Site of Murray Greenman CSc ZL1BPU
This web site specialises in modern communications modes for Radio Amateurs. The emphasis is on conversational modes and visually readable modes. As well as a section on propagation studies and another on precision time and frequency, it also carries a range of fascinating projects to build. - Fuzzy Modes -
The modes described here are visually readable, rather than interpreted by the electronics or computer. The idea isn't new, but some of the modes are new, and all are fascinating. This is the acknowledged premier site for Hellschreiber techniques and history.
- Modern Chat Modes -
These modes are for conversational use between two or more Amateurs. The emphasis is on performance, especially with low power or under poor radio conditions.
This site includes the "official" web sites for MFSK16, DominoEX, and MT63.
- The Ionosphere -
A small collection of techniques and ideas to assist understanding and monitoring of ionospheric propagation. The techniques include passive chirp sounding, ranging and carrier frequency Doppler analysis.
- Time and Frequency -
In this section strategies for measurement and control of high performance frequency standards and references are discussed. techniques include TV sync locking and GPS disciplined references. Several practical designs are presented, from simple to very high performance. PC analysis tools are also offered.
- Projects -
A range of projects based on ATMEL AVR processors. Projects from rotator controllers to signal generators, frequency counters and even transmitters. Some information on HF propagation beacon projects.
