AVR Programmer

AVR™ In-Circuit Programmer

DESCRIPTION

The programmer is very simple to build. It contains one IC and a couple of connectors. As you can see below, with some ingenuity it is possible to squeeze all the circuitry into a DB25 connector shell. The IC can be a 74HC244 or a 74LS244.

The more normal means of construction is with a small circuit board, with the DB25 connector mounted on one edge, and a header to connect the ribbon cable. The programmer is designed to work with all the AVR™ family micros, and with the Atmel "ISP" programming software.

SCHEMATIC

Check here for the simple schematic. You could build it in an evening. With this simple cable, and a cheap 10 pin header on every one of your projects, you can adapt them and reprogram them whenever you please. You could even make an adaptor with a few clip leads, and program devices in circuit with no programming header at all!

If you were to build a simple circuit such as the Programming Environment, (a Beginner's Development System) you could also use this and the Programming Cable to program microprocessors for other people.

LIMITATIONS

No warranty of performance is given or implied with this adaptor. While it is believed to be fit for the purpose outlined, and has been tested numerous times (it also works with the Atmel™ STK200™ kit), it is not in any way endorsed by Atmel or any other AVR™ accessory suppliers. Similarly, it is not known to be the same as any such product. All liability for damage, whatever the cause, is the sole responsibility of the user.

"AVR", "STK200" and "Atmel" are undoubtedly Trademarks of the Atmel Corporation.
