Bios

My original QTH is Macin in the county of Tulcea in ROMANIA. Macin is a small city on the right side of the Danube river close to the city of Braila.

I have inherited my HAM hobby from my father YO4BUA. He was the second one in Macin to setup a HAM station after YO4ZF. He was mainly active in the HF bands, specially in CW that he enjoys alot.

HF
His main HF rig consisted of a home made A-412 romanian made transceiver and a home made 50W power amplifier with 2xGU-50 tubes. The HF antenna was a VS1AA. Recently he has just received a brand new Kenwood TS-50S mobile HF transceiver that he is very excited about. Right now he is in the process of building a power supply for it and set up a new HF antenna. The new antenna will probably be a G5RV dipole either in an Inverted V configuration or straight dipole. Also he will probably need the companion AT-50 antenna tuner for the Kenwood rig. He hardly waits for the new HF rig to be up and running in order to have the first DX contacts.

VHF
The first VHF rig that he had was an ICOM IC-2GAT handheld transceiver. A few years ago he has also received an Yaesu FT-2500M mobile VHF transceiver. With the new mobile transceiver he is more active in the VHF band and chats with the other HAMs from Braila, Galatzi and elsewhere. Recently with a well positioned directional Yagi antenna he managed to open the YO9Charlie repeater in the Bucegi Mountains which is quite an achievement. Together with some other Macin HAMs he is working on setting up a local VHF repeater.
