XWARN FIELD DAY

"Field Day: day\ noun: 1) Competitive event where Amateur Radio operators set up radio equipment in the field to compete for score; 2) An event to test the readiness of Amateur Radio Emergency Communications; 3) A chance to meet new friends and test the limits of your favorite hobby." -American Radio Relay League-

Each year, during the last full weekend of June, hams take part in a weekend long competition of making as many radio contacts as possible on as many frequencies via several different modes of operation including Packet, HF, VHF, Satellite, CW and SSB. The actual Field Day transmitting session runs for 24 hours continuously, with many hams staying up all night, taking turns at the radio stations and camping out at the site. The event is designed to show the amateur radio operators ability to set up emergency communications at a given notice, invite the public to come and participate and see what ham radio is all about. All ages take part in the event as some scenes from former XWARN field days show below.
