Amateur Radio Emergency Service

A message from the Marion County EC.....

Hello, my name is Dennis Bombardiere, W8YS, and I am the ARES Emergency Coordinator for Marion County, WV. We are maintaining this Web Site to keep members informed of ARES activities, and to provide information to those who might want to join and volunteer their services if and when an emergency situation develops. We hope that time never comes, but when it does, we must be prepared.

What is ARES?

Amateur Radio Emergency Service

Let us not forget that amateur radio got its start as a public service. Amateur radio exists today because it is a public service.

ARES is a public service organization coordinated by the American Radio Relay League. It consists of licensed Amateur Radio Operators who have voluntarily registered their talents and equipment to provide emergency communications for public service events as needed.

ARES groups are dedicated to serving their communities. ARES members work hand in hand with the American Red Cross, local and state governments, and other nonprofit, community-service organizations.

ARES training keeps it’s members well practiced in providing emergency communications when normal means of communications have failed.
