Kids Day Contest 2000 was very interesting at the WN9O QTH. I
think we had 4 operators total and close to 100 QSo's. If you have
never operated Kids Day, the contest is mainly to introduce the kids to
ham radio. They are suppose to exchange their name, age, and favorite
color. Some of the interesting points were:
-
Let off the microphone switch when you want to listen
-
Changing favorite colors midway thru the contest
-
Bashful operators
-
Understanding phonetic callsigns
-
Calling "CQ Kids Day" only to have a 20 station pile-up return
-
Grabbing the microphone to tell the DX stations we are not allow to make
3rd party contacts
It was great to listen to the kids talk and I was amazed at how much the
kids have in common.
Operators were:
-
Olivia McClure (daughter) - Age 4
-
Alyssa McClure (daughter) - Age 10
-
Natalie Appelhans (neighbor) - Age 10
-
Kristina Appelhans (neighbor) - Age 12
