The "high inductance spot" of close wound wires helps give the relay, supplied with the kit, the greatest range. Note the five turns on each side of the "high inductance spot", and eight close wound turns in the middle. Wire size #24 gives the best results, #22 will work just as well. Tests show the closer the relay is to the core, the wider the range of the relay. Larger wire sizes lift the relay away from the core, which decreases the effect of the magnetism from the relay. Eighteen (18) turns are used on the stabilizer coil, 19 turns are used on the VFO coil without the stablilizer. |
