Welcome My name is Jim  I live in the beautiful mountains of southwest Virginia. In a little town called Marion. I've been a ham operator for 25 years now. First licensed in 1979 call KB4HQJ,  I  moved to Maryland and held the N3FRG call for about 15 years. I  hold an EXTRA class license, WK4W call. My first ticket was (novice) CW only, I fell in love with this mode! I have used all the other modes, code or cw as its called is still on top of my list!

Now the reason for this site. I have owned and used about all the commercial paddles out there, none seem to have the perfect feel for everyone! A paddle or any keying device for that mater has to become part of you, whether you are in a pileup or just chewing the rag. You simply don't have time to tighten, adjust or worry about the @$%&* thing sticking, coming loose or any of the other 20 or 30 things that can and nominally happen. Have you ever had a headphone cord get tangled up just as you were jumping up!! makes a mess out of that new VIBROPLEX doesn't it, I have been looking for the perfect paddle almost 25 years now and have yet to find it! I figured the only way I was going to get it was make my own!     (here is what I came up with)

All work starts with 6061 T6 Billet aluminum for the various parts and base assembly (standard model has a  steel base). After all parts are machined to spec. comes the fun part of polishing and buffing. After that comes the Hard anodizing and color finish that I apply. I use a permanent apposing magnet assembly for the tension of the paddles (very smooth) paddle tension is adjustable.  Fine threaded screws for all contact adjustments, and a cam over spacing adjustments. I use not 1 but 2 press fit shielded chrome ball bearings in each paddle arm assembly for a total of 4 bearings. This makes for one of the strongest set of double paddles that you can buy, (LIKE A ROCK) I heard that one some where? HI HI.  I build these one at a time as a hobby, no big commercial CNC machine shop, just old fashioned workmanship with manual machines. I make ALL the parts with the exception of the bolts, brass screws and brass thumb nuts. I pride myself  in the detail of every set. If  I wouldn't show it to someone or use it myself you can be assured that it will never be in your shack!

The MP/1 is the heavy steel base model, weighing in at just aver 2 lbs. and the rubber feet help it to stay put! After milling and drilling all necessary holes the base is sealed/primed and then oven baked enameled paint is applied for long lasting beauty.

MODEL #MP/1 STANDARD STEEL BASE

The MPL/1 (lite) is designed to be a light weight very easy to adjust reliable paddle, for all your needs, be it backpacking, mountain climbing, or just sitting at the picnic table watching the fish go by! (it also works great in the shack) it has rubber feet to stay put and for the rough riders in the cw world I have also included Velcro pads for the feet.
